Record Labels

To make sure that our artist has the highest success rate, after we chose the song we want to use and the artist we needed to decide on a record label to support our artist. To do this I looked at three different record labels which I believe have strengths and weakness to represent my artist I have chose.

Firstly I looked at Jive. Jive is an American record label and was found in 1981. Jive is different to normal record labels as this record label doesn't have a specific genre that there artists are. The artists that are signed by Jive are from different genres and these include Chris Brown who is an R&B artist and Britney Spears who is a pop artist. This shows that there is a variety of what genre our artist can be, therefore could be a good potential record label we could use. Also Jive colerates with Song Music Entertainment which therefore means it's one of the Big Three and can mean that it ha a high success rate. The logo of Jive is blue and white horizontal lives with blue writings on top of the background, this makes it more eye appealing because there is more to look at, other than just the writing.

The next record label I looked at was Def Jam which is Rihanna's record label therefore that's a big pro to using this record label as it is already workin with Rihanna who is our chosen artist. Def Jam is an Amercian record label and was found in 1983. Def Jam is also an independent record label and focuses on R&B genre more than any other genre which is the genre of our chosen song. Def Jam has also signed people such as Kanye West, Big Sean and Iggy Azalea which are similar artists to Rihanna and therefore have the same style in music. The logo for Def Jam is very simple however for the type of record label it is it works. There is only one colour which is black however it is on a white background an therefore stand out. Having the logo all in the same colour means that it is able to stay neat and can be recognisable to everyone. To make it different the logo has different sizing of the letters therefore you know what is the most important part of the logo and what isn't.

Lastly Roc Nation is the last record label I looked at which is also an American label however it was found in 2008 and therefore makes it the newest record label I looked at which means it is fresh and has new idea for the music industry. It was also had the influence of the rapper Jay Z which means it is independent however collaborates with Sony. Artists that have been signed by Roc Nation are people such as Demi Lovato, J.Cole and Rita Ora. The logo has a unusual font and looks as if it has been traced therefore will be recognisable against other record labels. Having the 'Roc' in red and the 'Bation' in black means that it is able to stand out more and is clearer that they are different words, it also suggest that this record label is more upbeat by using different colours to make certain words stand or more than others.
